PROJECT description:

Sitting on a narrow site shaped by a natural watercourse, DA85 is a project inspired by the synergy of the surrounding geographical traits and the reimagination of the geometric fluidity of those geographies. The water ravine defines DA85's character as a linear silhouette that creates a continuity with other the elements of the site. Instead of articulating the dichotomy of house and yard, conditioned and wild, programmed and leftover, figure and ground, the idea is to unfold the spatial narrative more ambiguously, with intertwined curvilinear massing to embrace the exterior in domestic life.

Following the driveway, one would approach a hallowed entryway, defined by a grandiose cantilever shading that also bridges the main residence and the guest block, indicating the initiation of a spatial sequence. Side yards, typically compressed by the domination of the house, are freed up and activate the living space by extending their footprint to the outdoors and visual connections throughout the path. The consistent shifting axis of the structure brings opportunities to create a dialogue of interior spaces with framed vistas, all the while maintaining the linear narrative. The carefully designed exterior hardscape not only serve as a project boundary but also to visually unify the main house, guesthouse, tennis court and accessory structure in one continuous undulation.
